About me
Adalky Capellán, a Washington Heights and Bronx native, graduated from DePauw University in 2013. Her Afro-Latina heritage and neighborhood experiences significantly shape her artistic and activist work. Over the past decade, she has engaged in various roles, including as an intern for City Council and with Community Voices Heard working on Participatory Budgeting. At Community Action for Safe Apartments (CASA), she helped preserve affordability in HUD buildings and organized against rezoning efforts. Her involvement with the Laundromat Project’s Create Change Fellowship in 2016 saw her collaborate with local groups in the South Bronx. She later served as Outreach Coordinator at JustFix.nyc and worked as an Art Specialist at Adapt Network Brooklyn, supporting individuals with special needs. As the Lead Organizer at Met Council, she advanced tenant rights through the Shalom Coalition and now continues her advocacy as a Campaign Organizer at Right to Counsel.
