Judge Shera Grant is a Circuit Court Judge in the 10th Judicial Circuit in Birmingham, Alabama. She became a judge in January 2016. Judge Grant is a 1999 graduate of Alabama State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems. After college, Judge Grant attended law school at Louisiana State University. She also studied International and Comparative Law at the Université d'Aix-Marseille III in Aix en Provence, France. She graduated from law school on the Chancellor's list with dual degrees, Juris Doctor (J.D.) and a Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) in 2002. Judge Grant received her Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Judicial Studies from Duke University in 2023. Her article, Civil Gideon: A Judge’s Perspective on the Right to Counsel in Eviction Cases, was published in 2024 by the Stanford Journal of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at Stanford Law School. Judge Grant has received the following awards: “Women Who Shape The State” award recipient, NAACP Community Empowerment Award, Woman of the Year Award, Alabama State University’s Silhouette of Service Award, INROADS Alumni of the Year, and National Coalition of 100 Black Women’s Spotlight Honoree for Outstanding Achievement in Public Policy Award.
