Ora Prochovnick is the Director of Litigation and Policy at the Eviction Defense Collaborative, the lead agency for San Francisco’s Tenant Right to Counsel Program. She joined the EDC in 2020 after over 35 years of working in the Bay Area’s legal services community. Ora went to New College of California School of Law, attracted by its public interest emphasis. After graduating in 1984, and joining the California bar, Ora was a partner and founding member of Bayside Legal Advocates, a community law office in the Mission District of San Francisco, where for ten years her practice focused on tenant advocacy, civil rights litigation and non-traditional family law. In 1994 Ora became a professor at New College School of Law, teaching real property and serving as Director of the New College Housing Advocacy Clinic, while continuing a private practice. From 2008 to 2020 she served as the Director of Clinical and Public Interest Law Programs and professor of law at John F. Kennedy University. She has a distinguished history of community service and pro-bono activities and has received many awards from the State Bar and local bar associations in recognition of her expertise and legal assistance, particularly to the low-income community. Ora has been a frequent presenter at workshops and seminars, for both legal professionals and the general public. At EDC, Ora provides staff supervision and training, case evaluation, and monitors, mentors and coordinates with other partner agencies. She also focuses on policy work, seeking to find longer term solutions for challenges that pose the largest hurdles to housing retention for our clients.
